Video editing help

Peekless Video compresses videos, converts them to MP4 or GIF, trims them, crops the frame, speeds them up, rotates and mutes them, merges several videos into one, saves their audio as M4A or MP3 and removes their location. All right in your browser – your videos are never uploaded.

Getting started

  1. Add videos: drag them into the window, or click Choose videos and pick them from your computer or phone gallery. You can add several at once.
  2. Pick an edit in the Compress, Convert, Rotate, Audio or Metadata tab and set it up. It applies to all videos in the list. To edit a single video, use the Edit button on its preview.
  3. Process them with the button below. Videos are processed one after another; you’ll see the progress of each one and then its new size.
  4. Download videos one by one, or all at once in a ZIP. On a phone you can share them directly.

If you change the settings, just process the videos again. Your browser remembers the settings for next time.

Editor: trim, crop and speed

The Edit button on a video’s preview (or tapping the preview) opens the editor with three tabs:

  • Time – set the start and end with the sliders, by time (such as 1:05.5), or during playback with the Start here and End here buttons. JPG frame and PNG save an image at the playback position, in full resolution.
  • Crop – select part of the frame by dragging the crop box and its corners, and pick an aspect ratio with one tap: 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 1:1 and 4:5 for Instagram, 16:9 for YouTube. Mirror flips the picture horizontally – useful for a video from a selfie camera.
  • Speed – 0.25× to 4×. The audio speeds up or slows down too, and voices keep their pitch. The preview plays at the chosen speed.

Save video downloads the video right away with all edits. Just set the edits remembers them and applies them together with the edit in the settings – so you can compress the edited video, convert it to a GIF or merge it with others at the same time.

Trimming usually works without re-encoding. If the start isn’t close to a keyframe, the video is re-encoded so the trim is exact. Nothing from the cut-off part ever stays in the file – except for a video your browser can’t play that has no keyframe in the selected part; you’ll see a note about it next to the result.

Compress

Quality sets how much the video shrinks. Medium quality looks the same as the original on both phones and computers, and a compressed video never gets a higher bitrate than the original had. A Resolution of 1080p is enough for almost anything; 4K phone videos shrink the most with it.

If you check At most and enter a size in MB (or choose Email 25 MB), the bitrate is calculated from the video’s length so that it fits. A long video also gets a lower resolution; if it still doesn’t fit, we tell you the smallest possible size – then trim the video first. A video that’s already smaller is just saved without metadata. The result is always an MP4 (H.264 and AAC).

Convert

  • MP4 (H.264 and AAC) – plays on every phone, computer, TV and browser. A video that’s already H.264 isn’t re-encoded, just rewrapped.
  • WebM (VP9 and Opus) – for the web. A smaller file, but converting takes longer and some devices can’t open it.
  • GIF – an animation without sound, looping forever, up to a minute long. Choose the width (320, 480 or 640 px) and the frames per second; a smaller width and fewer frames mean a smaller file. Set the part and the crop in the editor.

We can open MP4, MOV (iPhones, cameras), WebM, MKV, 3GP and MPEG-TS with common codecs (H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9, AV1; AAC, Opus, MP3 and other audio).

Rotate, Audio and Metadata

  • Rotate – rotate by 90° or 180°, mute (a video without an audio track) and resolution. Rotating and muting don’t re-encode the picture, so they’re instant and lossless.
  • Audio – saves just the audio as M4A (AAC) or MP3. AAC audio from a phone is just rewrapped into M4A; MP3 (192 kbps) opens in absolutely any player.
  • Metadata – removes the GPS location, recording date, phone details and other metadata. Neither picture nor sound is re-encoded, so even a large video is done in a few seconds.

We remove the location and metadata with every edit, not just in the Metadata tab. Videos with a location show a Location label, which changes to No location after processing.

Merge videos

With two or more videos, a Merge videos button appears in the list header. The videos are merged into one MP4 in the order of the list – change the order with the arrows next to a video’s name, or by dragging on a computer. Edits from the editor (trim, crop, speed) are applied.

Videos from the same phone with the same settings and no edits are joined without re-encoding, so it’s instant and lossless. Others are converted to H.264 with the dimensions of the first video (up to 1080p); videos of a different shape get black bars, and a video without sound gets silence.

Browsers and speed

Your computer or phone re-encodes the video through the WebCodecs API – not our server. A minute of Full HD video usually takes tens of seconds, less on newer devices. Removing metadata, muting, rotating, saving the audio and most trims are instant.

It works in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. HEVC (H.265) video from an iPhone can be converted in Safari, and in Chrome or Edge on most computers and phones; if your browser can’t handle it, we show this on the video up front and offer the edits that still work (trimming, rotating, muting, metadata). Videos are never sent to a server “just in case” – we’d rather recommend another browser.

Finished videos stay in your browser’s storage on your device until you download them, and are then deleted. Large videos therefore need free space on your device of roughly the size of the result.

App and offline use

You can install Peekless Video as an app – with the Install button in the header (Chrome, Edge, Android) or in Safari with Add to Home Screen. After the first use it works without an internet connection too. On Android you can then share videos to the app straight from your gallery.

Privacy

Videos are never uploaded – your browser processes them and the results stay with you. We use no cookies and no tracking. See the privacy policy for details.

Libraries and licenses

Peekless Video uses these free libraries (they run in your browser and are downloaded from our server only when needed):

  • Mediabunny (MPL-2.0) – reading and writing MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV, and running the conversion.
  • The AAC audio encoder from FFmpeg (LGPL-2.1, the @mediabunny/aac-encoder package under MPL-2.0) – only in browsers that can’t encode AAC themselves – and the LAME MP3 encoder (LGPL-2.0, the @mediabunny/mp3-encoder package under MPL-2.0); source and license.
  • gifenc (MIT) for animated GIFs.
  • Lucide icons (ISC), Inter and Outfit fonts (OFL-1.1).
